Today I decided to have a little retro fun with the skirt that So Many Styles has at The Dressing Room. To be completely and brutally honest, I haven’t always had the best luck with So Many Styles, I had to toss a lot of the clothing I bought from there because of prim problems. I love her textures though, so I have had to be very careful what I bought, sort of a Linden lottery. This skirt was just too pretty to resist and with mesh after all prim issues just don’t exist, and besides, having a demo makes everything a sure thing! So I grabbed the demo, and saw that all I had to do to make it was was to make my legs a little skinnier, and increase the size of my saddle bags and add some body fat and so I made a new shape for the skirt file, and returned to The Dressing Room and I bought it happily. If only I had to add saddle bags to make real life items fit. Not in this lifetime.

I also loved the top that Irie Campese put with the skirt in the photo, so I went looking for it at her shop and found it. It’s called Plain Cami and the colour is Solar Power. It sells for 100L and I would highly recommend it. As you can see in the photo above and below, both it and the skirt are extremely well textured. They both have the edgings done, the cami has perfectly straight side seams, subtle realistic fabric wrinkles, not the wrinkles that are so over done that they make you look like you are wearing the wrong size, which is so common in SL.

I went looking for a pair of white gogo boots to put with them, to make this a retro look,  and found them on the market place.  These boots are called Versa Boots by The Domineaux Effect. There is no demo available online or at the store, but you can see the boots at the store. I threw the dice and took a chance on the shoes, not something I usually do, but with 8 textures for just 399L I thought what the heck. The boots are unrigged mesh so they can be resized, and there is a resize script in them. You can also tint the lighter colours, although just like with most tinted items, I’m not happy with the results, but if you like things you tint yourself, then you’ll be happy with that. I just don’t like the look of things coloured with the SL colour grid, it just is obvious to me when it is done, and it doesn’t look right somehow.  The textured shades provided are fantastic though, and I’m happy with them. You can change the boots sizing and colours either through the hud or through clicking on the shoe and using the menu. I found using the menu worked better for me, but everyone is different.

One caution, the boots are 399L on the market place and are 499L at the store.

To make it a modern retro feel, I added this great hair do by Clawtooth by Clawtooth, one of my favourite hair stores. This one is called Could I resist? and the colour I’m wearing is called Orange You Glad. That colour comes in the Exquisite Reds Pack. Demos are free and the packs are 275L each for 5 colours, my only complaint about Clawtooth hair is no variety pack having one each of the major hair colour groups, which is what stops me from buying more then I do, I generally tend to buy more from companies that offer those.

I love the necklace and earrings I found in my inventory for this, it’s from Lucas Lameth Fashion Jewelry, and it’s his Chakra Boho Beads necklace and earrings in Pumpkin. To me it looks like vintage macrame jewelry.  It’s perfectly made, with each prim wonderfully placed, the closer you look the better it looks. At just 189L for the set, it’s a steal. You can try  it out with the demo before you buy, to make sure you like it with what you are trying to wear it with. I find demos for jewelry invaluable, I don’t know how often I’ve bought something I thought would work and it didn’t quite make it. I remember one 100L pair of pants I was trying to model that I ended up spending 3K on jewelry before I found something that was just perfect. It wasn’t a good day. Of course I never have that problem at Luc…thank goodness!

PS – this jewelry set comes in 8 colours, just in case orange isn’t your favourite colour….although how could it not be, orange rocks, it has attitude…it’s…it’s..Orange…

The nails I’m wearing are from [Virtual/Insanity] and are their round nails, in the style Lacey Spring Nails which sell for 150L and come in 3 sizes, 10, 20 and 30 hand sizes. The set has 8 colours, and are changed by clicking on one of the nails and following the menu.   The nail glove I’m wearing is one that came with the skin, something I would love if every skin designer started to do. This skin is done by Izzie’s and she is only one of 2 designers I have seen do this so far, but I hope more follow suit. With the popularity of prim nails it would be great if designers started making gloves that we could wear under them in the proper skin tone, it’s an item that wouldn’t take long to make but would add a lot of perceived value to the skin package. There, how is that for marketing speak. Are all you skin makers sold yet?

Last but definitely not least, probably my favourite item of this blog, is the skin.  This skin is from Izzie’s with is one of my Top 5 shops I couldn’t live without. This is the Gala skin she created for the One Voice event, and 50% of the money spent on this skin is being used to raise money to go to the legal fund for Gala Phoenix to get her Curio Skins back on the market  by fighting a copyright challenge. One Voice is over but you can still buy this great skin and donate to the cause by getting it at Izzie’s shop.

There are 3 tones of this skin, I’m wearing the Gala in Caramel the darkest. Each tone costs 1,000L. Now you only see the basic skin in the photo but you get so much more then that. It’s really a fatpack of looks. You  get a version of the skin in all the major eyebrow colours , one with and one without cleavage.  You get the Gala shape, which is a copy/mod shape, so important these days when you have to change your shape to fit mesh clothing.  I’m  not wearing the shape, as I like to wear skins on my shape to provide a steady reference for all my readers, but it is a pretty shape. You get 5 different colours of lip tattoos and 5 different colours of eyeshadow tattoos.  If you are a freckle fan, you get two options, one just on the face and one on the face and body.  I’m wearing the green eyeshadow tattoo.

As discussed above, you even get a glove that covers your nails in the exact right colour for your skin making prim nails meld seamlessly.  *hugs Izzie for that*

Every persons opinion on this varies but I think that tattooed make up looks the best when it’s made by the person that created the skin, so I like it when skin designers have a lot of tattoo make up. The one exception to this is Mock, her make up rocks on a lot of skins, but not even she can look good on everything with every make up.  Izzie has a huge amount of tattoo make ups, and I am wearing her rust lipstick today from her dark vibrant lipstick collection which has 10 beautiful shades of lipstick for 190L. She provides demos with all of her tattoos so you can check them out to see how they work before you buy, which was something I really appreciated and took advantage of. I just wanted to show you how well her other tattooed make up looks with her skins, and as you can see, it looks great. So your options when you get this skin are     almost unlimited depending on what add ons you purchase.

My eyes are from Amacci..they are her Gaze eyes in Joy…the big version. The Gaze eyes come in a huge variety of colours, all with the life like look you see above. You get big and normal sizes of the eyes for 120L.  Very pretty eyes, and they always seem to have just the colour I’m  looking for to make any look pop.

Photograph information – The photo was done on my PNP Photo Studio with the back ground from their New Orleans Pack photo 8.  Still in love with the studio, almost up to 1,000 backgrounds…woot!

Poses I used are from Manifeste, Photo #1 – full body shot – 187, Photo 2 – Outfit Shot – 186, Photo 3 –  Nails – 200, Photo 4 – Face 189.

I’m the slowest blogger on the face of the planet. It takes me hours to find somewhere to take photos, then usually something doesn’t work and I have to go back and redo them. Then I fiddle with the text for about 3 hours more.  All and all if I get done with one post in under 6 hours, it’s a lucky lucky day. I’m trying to do this one fast and dirty, which for me means about 3 hours, because every week, Ivey Deschanel, the brilliant and twisted mind behind Sn@tch, makes us wonderful and inexpensive blue light specials and I’m tired of being too slow to blog them.

As all the members of her VIP and Subscribo groups can tell you, these specials come out on Wednesday and are gone after Thursday.  That is gone, disappeared, not on the wall anywhere in a lot of cases.  So to honour the effort she goes through for us for 2 days of sales, I wanted to blog this weeks offering, Winter Plum. This is as pictured above and also in another colour combination, silver blouse, purple skirt, purple nylons, all in the same box for one low price, 75L. You might be too late to pick up this beauty, but there is always another Wednesday night around the corner, so don’t let another Blue Light special pass you by, and don’t miss her weekly specials either, they are chalk full of great outfits and deals.

Sn@tch has made it’s name creating gothy and bad girl clothing and Ivey does clothing with an attitude very very well, but don’t ever mistake her as a designer who only produces in her niche. This is not a one dimensional lady by any stretch of the imagination. As the photo shows above, many of her designs are just as at home in the office.  Her ethnic clothing salutes to India are wonderful, her evening dresses glitter and shimmer.  The only thing she doesn’t do is boring. I’ve even seen her breath new life into the most overdone snore-fests in SL…Skull covered clothing and plaid skirts and white shirt grown up school girl outfits. After having seen those 2 things done 10,000 each in the last 4 years in SL, if she can make it look new, she can do anything. Sometimes I think that 1 out if every 10 pieces of clothing in SL has a skull on it, wearing a skull is about as rebellious as wearing a tattoo.  It all marks you as part of a type of herd. Baaaa.

The shoes I picked to make this “office look” were Chunky Stilletos 2 from HOC Industries. This is a great texture change, not colour change, shoe that comes with everything you need to wear it in pre-V2 viewers or to use Version 2 alphas, for a better look if your browser can handle it. These slick sculpty shoes come with 17 textures, no prim toes so you can wear them with nylons, which is nice for outfits like this. I love prim toes, but they aren’t great for everything.  And the wonderful thing, Guu, a really classy gal who I had the pleasure of meeting, *waves Hi* believes in charging as little as she can for her creations. These aren’t business in a box shoes, this is her own stuff.  The price for basically 17 pairs of shoes? 30L.  I’ll just shut up now, and you can go to the landmark.

The pretty skin I’m wearing in all this is another skin by Kira Penderborn the owner of Style by Kira. This one is called Kylie Skin 01C.  I love the smokey eyes and believe it or not I like the freckles. That is amazing for me. I hate freckles.  The first thing I have ever done with any skin is go and throw out the freckles version. Hey with an inventory over 100k  you save where you can.  Words fail me to express how shocking it is to me that I like this, but I do. Kudos Kira.

Kira is also another great person with sales. This skin was orginally 50L when it and the fantasy version of it came out on 50L Monday before going to the regular price of 600L. If you prowl her shop you will find skin bargains there all the time, coming out on sale then going up to the regular price.  Pst…hint..beside the Kylie you see me wearing here, there is 2 new ones out for 69L I want the green one, maybe I’m green with envy. Ugh, must be late, I’m making puns.

Last but never least, the hair. I don’t know which I love more, skin or hair. Hair or skin. They go so well together I’ll just love them both equally. This hair is on sale…yes…sale. Clawtooth by Clawtooth, the designer of this great hair called RockinRolls is having a 50% off sale. This sale is even on their latest and greatest designs, like this new long hair with a great 40’s flair.  The 50% off sale brings their colour packs down to 137 tempting little lindens.  Fatpacks for all us fashion piggies are unfortunately not for sale, but at this price, make your own!

Think of all those designs you have picked up on 50L Friday’s from this generous shop that you wish was in just your colour, well now if your chance to get that colour you really want at a great price. Sale is over December 31st, but buy now before Christmas steals all your money.

Have a great second life tonight – Tapika Tomsen

I was going through the Monday Mania list this week and I came across the posting for a pretty sweater, and I tped into get it and Wow! There is was, a very nice and new to me shop! Zenith for those like me who haven’t been there before is men’s wear on the bottom and women’s wear on top. You all know what that means. Take your favourite male with you and finally make him look good enough to hang on your arm.  *teasing grin*

Today Zenith had two colours of their newest release, Off the shoulder sweaters, on for 50L.  If you are reading this after Monday don’t worry, the regular price is 150L so it still won’t break the bank.  The two colours are Cyan and Chocolate. I’m Canadian, so I have a long standing policy of not buying sweaters and other winter wear.  I need winter in my Second Life like I need the bubonic plague.  I get enough winter in real life thank you very much. These off the shoulder half sweaters with the fringe bottom were cute enough to make me forget they were sweaters. I bit the bait. I even bought the cute jeans (Long Jeans – Blue) in the display beside them. Let’s face it I have enough jeans to cloth a small nation, but these were too nicely detailed to pass up. Have a peek at the detailing on the fanny on the photo below.

I love the curled up cuff on these jeans, the prim pant legs blend so well into the pants it’s really hard to even say where they start and the pants end. I did a quick spin around the store, and I can hardly wait to go back there. There are a whole lot of things I would love to buy…blog…wear…just roll all over while I evilly cackle  ” Mine..mine..mine”.  I can’t wait to see what “rule” the designer makes me break next!

The shoes are from Zero Number, which is a shop that is incredibly hard to find. If you believed the designers profile you would think it’s closed, because she says it is on her profile, but I found it open in a secret little place on the Drowsy sim. These shoes are 200L each and this colour isn’t even for sale on for 200L, you can only get it in the fat pack.  The fat pack however is the way to go, you get 8 pairs of wonderfully coloured shoes for 700L. 1 pair at 200l or 8 pairs for 700l…do that math and it doesn’t take wearing many of the colours to come out ahead with the fatpack.

For the hair I’m wearing Twinkle Toast by  Clawtooth by Clawtooth. Where does she come up with these names. I wish I had a mind like hers! This hair do comes in packets of 5 really nice hair colours, something for everyone, for 275L each or a complete fat pack for 1925L.  Her demos are free so you can go wild and try them all on, and then have to buy out the store when you find out you can’t live without any of them. Been there..done that.

The skin is another find from the Monday Mania list, but this one is a long time favourite store, Style by Kira.  I remember being shocked at how good the first skin I ever tried by her was. I remembered thinking ” How did she get away without going through the learning curve and doing a few horrid skins first?”  The skin I’m wearing above is called Kylie Skin – 01B and she if offering it along with a wilder sister skin called Kylie skin Fantasy 01B for only 50L each.  I would grab both if them if I were you. I do have both of them. I actually like the fantasy skin even better, but it screams out for a much wilder outfit then what I was pairing the skin with today…you’ll see it later and want it, I promise you, so grab it while it’s still 50L or you’ll be kicking yourself!

Have a fun Second Life today!
