Maitreya Long Jersey Dress - Front - Dare - All Assumptions Aside

I know that in SL it’s always winter til after Christmas, but I’m Canadian and even though we have only had a miraculous 2 days with snow on the ground so far this winter, I’m already tired of it so I’m rushing spring in SL even if I can’t do it in real life. So instead of a winter coat or reindeer sweater or something christmasy , I’m wearing this fantastic VIP group dress from Maitreya called Long Jersey Dress. It’s a limited edition colour of a regular store release, that is only going to be out for VIP group members to buy for a small period of time. It’s selling for 225L which is 1/2 the price of the store release versions.

I find it hard to say just how much I love this dress. I know how much a lot of people were let down by the early mesh designs, but that faint early glimmer of promise those clumsy first attempts at mesh showed, this dress bring to fruition.  Until they somehow make mesh fit us so we don’t have to change our shape to fit it, mesh is not going to get any better then this design. There isn’t one pose in my AO that this dress doesn’t look good in.  Legs apart, legs together, legs crossed, turned sideways, turned back, arms crossed…you name it, this dress just keeps looking great. The shading is spectacular. Onyx LeShelle is brilliant at shading in ways that are organic to the way the dress moves, so it just always looks – well – just right. I can think of no other way to put it. I wish I could take credit for the great looking belt, but that is a part of this dress.

I tried this pose just for giggles, but I can’t get this dress to look bad doing anything. Believe me, there are not many things in SL that you can use this pose on and not look like an idiot in or not have to edit 3/4 of the things you are wearing to make them look Ok. I didn’t have to touch a thing!

This also gives you a good look at the shoes I’m wearing, the Maitreya Gold Liaison. This shoe is 875L each or 2000L for a mini fatpack of 4. You can also get a fatpack of all 24 colours for 9,990L . I got the mini fatpack of #6 which includes Cocao (which I’m wearing in the photo), Lemon (A bright lemon yellow), Apple ( A muted Apple Green) and Shiver ( Sort of a mix of pale olive and clay). I got this fatpack because it seem to me to offer the best mix of colour, most of the packs are single colour packs, 4 blues or 4 pinks or even 4 taupy shades

I must admit I am pretty confused by the options on these shoes. You can change the sole colours…4 different options…which is nice, but not something I really care about. You can use or not use the ankle strap, but for someone as fussy as I am about matching skin…that isn’t really an option, even with skin matching as close as I have in the picture above it still left a noticeable line. I guess you could leave it off if you put on the tube ankle warmer option, but they look pretty ugly…and the only good thing about socks..the not having to match is take away by the fact the tube doesn’t go all the way to the end of your feet so you still have to match skin anyway. The on standard shoe option that almost every high priced shoe has is the ability to change silver metal to gold. These shoes have silver heels and you can’t change them to gold. To me this is a big limiting factor in what I can wear them with. I mostly buy gold jewelry, so these shoes will see limited wear. Too bad. I like them.

Maitreya Long Jersey Dress - Torso - Dare - Where's My Ring Now

The nails I’m wearing here are from Izzie’s and are her Long French Nails Set. With this set you get prim nails set to 3 different sizes, 10, 15 or 20. I’m wearing the size 20. They have 20 different colours, all with the white tips you would expect with french nails and are changable with a hud. Each nail set comes with a hand posed One of the best things about Izzie’s nails is that they come with 13 tinted gloves, and if the colours she has don’t match, she has a white one that for some reason I find a lot easier to colour then all the other gloves I’ve ever coloured.

All that is just 199L which is a great deal when a lot of places charge more then that for 5 colours.

I wanted a nice wooden bead set to go with this outfit and the Kenya Set in Cedar from PurpleMoon worked out perfectly. Nice wooden beads are surprisingly hard to find in SL. The Kenya set comes in a rainbow of colours each for 175L but there is no fatpack option which is rare for PurpleMoon.

The skin I’m using is one of the latest skins from Glam Affair that is for sale at Collabor88. This is the new Amberly Skin in Europa Frostbite 03. Glam Affairs is offering 3 skins this month, each for 188L, a steal for a skin of this quality. If you can appreciate a pale skin this skin is for you.

The eyes I’m wearing are from Amacci. There are very few designers that can do it all, poses, hair, skin, eyes but Carina Larsen can. These eyes are her new Look eyes, in my opinion her most beautiful eyes to date. These pair are her Burnt Sienna set. Every eye comes with a big or normal version and prim sparkles for each eye. These are very nice sparkles, not horrid blingy things from way back when that you  think of when you  think of sparkling  jewelry etc. Back in the bad old days when everything in SL blinged or sparkled.

You can buy these eyes one at a time for 120L each or get what you really are going to want and get the whole fatpack of 33 eyes for 1500 lindens.

When I think of a Purple Moon, I think of a pale moon, but when I went to Purple Moon for the first time about a month ago, to look at the release of another dress, my eye was drawn to this one instead. There was nothing pale or wane about this, this looked like it has designed on a hot summer moon, one you dance under drinking sangria, and flirting til you drop. I have worn this dress for a month, not wanting to share it, but I guess now is the time. It is called Natalie, and it can be yours for a mere 395L, all the staring men that will follow  your every move come free of charge.

This dress is filled with superb detail work, from the fine lace covering the left breast, moving down into fine netting on the back and side to the gathered prim skirt ruffled up to expose one leg and seemingly artfully tied with a big lace bow. I adore the feathered broach that adorns the right breast, bringing life to the plainer side of the dress. This outfit comes in a rainbow of colours, but the red and black just spoke my language. You can however get anything from cooler more innocent colour to this spicy number.

Purple Moon is filled with a lot of gorgeous evening gowns, if you come in for this one, I guarantee you will leave with two.

If you follow my blog at all, you probably recognize the maker of the skin above as being Heartsick. Her skins have a look about them that make them stand out as hers from the moment you lay your eyes on them. There are a few skin makers that I can say that about, Curio, for example, and she is one of them. This is a teaser skin for her Spirit line that she has placed out for sale for 60L for Valentines Day called My Valentine. It’s not a group gift, so you can get it even if you aren’t a member of her VIP group. She has 4 skin tones available to pick up, I’m wearing the second lightest tone, Bliss. It was really hard to pick which one to wear. They all looked great with the dress. At this price, who wants to buy just one colour, you want to leave room for getting a tan, or growing pale in the winter.  Who can resist that lip colour, isn’t it to die for?

By the way, you don’t just get one skin, you get cleavage options, 3 of them. I’m wearing the medium cleavage option, you get freckle options, 4 eyebrow options, hair base tattoos, which I’m wearing to go with my hair, which is designed to need a hair base from what I saw in the photos of the hair in the shop.  On top of all this, unlike a lot of sale skins, there is a demo, so you can make sure you like it before you part with your 60L.

What more can you ask for? Lindens falling out of the sky? If that happens call me?

Men falling out of the sky? If that happens call me too…I’m single now.

The thing I had the hardest time with this blog was hair. I am in love with Dusty Beehive from Ploom. It’s the nicest updo I have ever worn in my life, and I adore it. I want to wear it all the time and never ever take it off. I’ve been wearing it with this dress for the last month, and it looks perfect with it. Perfect. But. But. But I already blogged it in “Never give up, Never surrender” and well a blogger that wears the same hair all the time, isn’t much of a blogger.

So I set out to get me a new updo I could love. I went to Truth, a lot of really nice updos, but nothing that looked “finished” they all had hair falling out of them, and I wanted a smart start of the evening hair do, not a coming home when it’s all done falling apart hair do.  I went to The hair colour I felt was dark enough for the dress, didn’t have any definition to actually see the hair as anything more then a blob, that was a waste of money. Elikatira, my favourite all time updo maker from the days of ETD? She didn’t have much in the way of updos, maybe she burned herself out on all the great ones she made back in the days of ETD. I bought the one I did find, but more for nostalgia then because it was appropriate.

Then I went to Maitreya.  They had a gorgeous hair, called Siri. I love thier Demos, tons of colours so you can actually try on a hair in the colour you want to wear. If had had that, I could have saved myself some money. I loved the hair, it needed a hair base, no problem, Heartsick had it covered. I got the Brown pack which is 295 for 5 shades, like all their 6 packs are. Their fat pack is 850, which is pretty reasonable.  The texture is great in this hair, and it’s almost pretty enough to make me forget Dusty Beehive. I’ll have to wear it a while and see if it can steal my affections. I am pretty fickle.

A sexy dress needs sexy shoes, and when you want sexy shoes, you go to N-core first. These shoes are called Obsession, for good reason. They are part of N-core’s Extreme heel collection, their sexiest of sexies.  The black is called Galaxy, and it’s gorgeous, as are all the colours. They are 795L each or 4995 lindens for the fat pack.  They have a pretty easy to follow hud, with a lot of options to make the shoes your own. My only beef with it is that to match your skin using RBG you have to click arrows, and you just can’t hold the buttons down to get close, you have to start from white and click your way down, which means about  400 to 500 clicks…per attempt. Per skin. Please please please either put in a hold down button or add a way to type in the numbers in future versions of this hud. That is a lot of clicking for nothing.  There is enough carpel tunnel in the world. Why add to it.

But let’s face it, if that is the only problem with shoes this gorgeous, then it’s not going to stop anyone from buying them. It hasn’t stopped me.

The poses today were all from KS2Cool, the shop from Karla Scorbal, one of the best bloggers in SL. If I was as fast as her at blogging, I would be a happy happy woman. I don’t know how she manages to do the fantastic photographs, great well put together the beautiful outfits that are always just so with freebies most of the time, and the number of outfits she does a day that she does. Probably because she doesn’t write novels for blogs like you do, Tapika….Oh yeah. *pout*

Her poses are some of the easiest I’ve ever had to work with. They all look good, and they have something that most pose makers just don’t seem to get. They consider the eyes. I don’t know how she does it but her poses have the eyes actually able to look in places where you want them to, with a few encouraging wiggles of your mouse. You look human. You look pretty. In contrast some poses I get from some pretty major designers have me wanting to toss the designers over my lap and spank them. You wiggle your mouse all you want but the eyes are either going way over one way or way over the other way…with no stops in between, making you look like something out of the Exorcist with eyes rolling around like your possessed. After 10 minutes of fiddling with the pose, the only thing you have achieved is to lose 10 minutes of your life, 10 minutes you know that you are never going to get back. So thanks, Karla, for making such wonderful useful, life lengthening poses.

The unbelievable thing about her shop is that her poses are only 5L a pack, and she has 10 per pack and 10 packs.  That’s 100 poses for 50L. It’s highway robbery and we have the gun.

The poses I used are – Picture 1 – #75, Picture 2 – #82, Picture 3 – #52, Picture 4 was just done with my AO

It wasn’t long after I got to Second Life that I learned that pictures lie. After tossing a few real life 20 dollar bills down the drain buying shoes, dresses etc etc that looked fantastic on the picture and like crap on me, I learned. It was not a fun lesson but I learned it. What I learned was to get a dollarbie or freebie from a designer first, see what their skill level was, and to judge from that if I should buy at a shop or not.

Soon I was getting a ton of dollarbies, I threw a 95%  of them out, but the 5% I kept, I went back to those shops and felt comfortable forking out 800L for a dress, because I knew they could design.

Some where along the line I noticed that even designers I knew that could design were making crappy dollarbies,  it was as if they didn’t think that people were going to look at those and think that that level of quality was what they were going to get from their expensive outfits as well. That never made sense to me. It was like making a demo hair that had purposeful flaws in it, chunks of hair sticking out all over, instead of just making it with weird colour streaks and a box over people’s head.

I found this beautiful dress this weekend from Badoura Designs, and it was enough to make me believe in quality samples of workmanship again!  I’ll definately be dragging my shopaholic friends to this store and letting them try on this beautiful dress called Zusy.  Once they do, I bet they go back for more!

I love the colour and texture of this dress, everything from the beads in the front to the wrinkles on the butt work perfectly. The prim piece comes in scripted or modifiable, but I just slapped it on and it worked first time without any adjustment which I consider to be an SL version of a miracle. No detail was left out. The banding where the beading is on almost seems thicker, the darting in the back where the dress is drawn in to make it fitted is there, the pleating at the front is life like.  I really have to applaud  Bardoura Loon for a job well done.

My shoes…my beautiful beautiful shoes. I love these shoes. If I had to pick I would probably pick these Hana shoes by Maitreya Gold as the most beautiful shoes in my inventory. They are 975 each or you can go like me, get a fat pack of 4 for 2,290.

The only fly in the ointment came when I got the box home and openned it up and put my beautiful shoes on. They have a “special” way of doing the colouring of skin, instead of the easy RBG method that everyone else uses that ensures a quick match in seconds, using a colour system build into the game mechanics, they have their own system that has 10 base colours and then you change the Hue, Saturation and Lightness. These buttons aren’t even press and hold so you can just quickly experiment with how everything works. If you want to go up to 75 in saturation, you have to press saturation 75 times.

They included a very limited list of skins that they had figured out the colours for, skin lines that keep the same tone across their whole line so it wasn’t a lot of work to do it for them. They didn’t do it for major make up houses like Lara Skin and Cup Cakes aren’t on it, and up and comers like Tik Tok are ignored. I have about 300 skins in my collection, the only skins I had on the list was Redgrave, and I’m pretty bored with wearing them.

I finally after 2 hours of playing “I’m an idiot pressing buttons”, I had to face the facts that it was toss the shoes in the trash and lose my 2,290L or go buy a skin from their list. I went to Atomic the first one on the list, and bought the skin I’m wearing here, which I figured was the lesser of 2 evils. If this had been a product from a real life shop I would have been taking it back and tossing those shoes in someone’s face and saying how dare they sell such crap.

Now this is not to say that that will be your experiance with the hud. You may like it. I’ve found one person who can use it, out of the dozens I’ve asked. She prefers it to the RBG version and doesn’t know how to do that. I’ve agreed to teach her. *grins* It’s just a friendly warning that if you are expecting RBG colour options like Stiletto Moody, SLink, Kalnins and so many more shoe stores offer. You aren’t going to find it.

One nice thing about the fat pack is that they come 2 ways in one box, one is 4 different shoes, and one is 4 colours as colour change in the same shoe, so you can set your skin colour once and just change the shoe colour when needed instead of clicking those buttons 70 times for each shoe. It’s a small advantage but I’ll take it.

Nothing in the world is all bad, and the experiance with my Maitreya shoes above isn’t either. By making me go out to buy a skin to wear them with, I discovered this gorgeous skin from Atomic. This particular skin was for a Stumblebum release so it is no longer available, but trust me when I say that if you go to the link for Atomic, you will find all kinds of beautiful skins from the same skin line, Audri, that will love just as much as this one!

The skins are 1,000L each or 2,000L for a 3 pack.

The hair is by Truth..and oldie but goodie.  For those of you who have been around forever like me you can check your inventories to see if you have Katherine. I’m wearing it in sable.
